Prof. Paul Shearing, Director of the ZERO Institute at the University of Oxford, was among the first scientists in the world to use a ZEISS X-ray microscope to understand the detailed morphology of an electrode. He is helping to advance the next generation of batteries, which he hopes will play an even more substantial role in our lives. And for his work, it’s fundamental that he can zoom in on the individual particles of a battery, where all the fun chemistry happens.
