Ericsson and MasOrange Begin Open RAN Network Integration in Europe

Ericsson and MasOrange, the largest communications service provider in Spain, have announced a five-year partnership to integrate Open RAN-ready and 5G Standalone network technology. This collaboration will support the consolidation of Orange Spain's and MASMOVIL’s networks, ultimately equipping MasOrange with an extensive, high capacity 5G network across rural and urban areas in Spain. Ericsson’s advanced network solutions, which include energy-efficient Massive MIMO and RAN Compute technology, are designed to enhance flexibility and scalability within MasOrange’s network architecture.

Alongside the new network infrastructure, the agreement focuses on expanding MasOrange’s coverage and network efficiency by deploying 5G Massive MIMO Time Division Duplex (TDD) technology and network densification strategies. These updates are expected to provide an enhanced 5G experience to MasOrange subscribers, meeting the growing demand for high-capacity connectivity in Spain.

"With this agreement we look at the future where high-performance and differentiated networks will be key to digitalizing enterprises and society. Our vision for the industry is based on open and programmable networks with capabilities that are exposed through network APIs and leveraged by an ecosystem of developers – driving rapid innovation and growth. We are very proud of being trusted by MasOrange to initiate this strategic execution in Europe for the development of the 5G innovation cycle." said Jenny Lindqvist, Senior Vice President and Head of Market Area Europe and Latin America, Ericsson.
