Dry-type Transformer Delivered in 5 Weeks

Trafo Power Solutions reported it successfully designed, built and delivered a non-standard cast-resin replacement transformer for a mine in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa in five weeks. After the failed transformer was assessed, the miner ordered a dry-type transformer from the supplier. The mine required a 1,600-kilovolt-amperes dry-type DYN11 transformer that stepped 33 kilovolts down to 550 volts, with a non-standard tap setting arrangement of seven tap settings instead of the normal five. The normal delivery time could be as much as 14 weeks, Trafo Power Solutions
reported. Components of the transformer were sourced in Europe and the unit was manufactured at the TMC transformers facility in Italy. The solution was designed to meet the miner’s exact specifications, Trafo Power Solutions reported.
