New Development Drill for Underground Surpasses Expectations in Field

Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology released the field-tested DD320S, a two boom hydraulic-controlled development drill for demanding underground conditions and various drilling applications. The drill features THC560 hydraulic drilling controls, a B26XLF boom, and an HLX5 rock drill to ensure long running hours with minimum downtime, the company reported. Carrier components, including the diesel engine and layout, are similar to Sandvik DD321 technologies, ensuring common service principles and spare parts.
The DD320S is designed to drill 43-mm to 64-mm-diameter bore holes and 76-mm to 127-mm reaming holes, Sandvik reported. It is available with an optional FOPS/ROPS (ISO 3449/3471) operator cabin and comes standard with ergonomic handrails and anti-slip surface stairs. For increased safety, a movement prevention switch and access detector and a new compressor thermal monitoring system are optional.
The drill was widely tested in cooperation with Sargin Construction and Machinery Inc. at the Esan Balya mine in Western Turkey, the company reported. Sandvik said the tests revealed the performance and reliability scores of the drill were above those of other OEM machines at the same mine, to the satisfaction of the customer. “The drill is designed to meet the needs of mining customers who appreciate high drilling performance together with reliability and low operating costs through proven components and simplicity of design,” said Johannes Välivaara, product manager for underground development drills, Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology.
