BEUMER Group has been chosen by Warrior Met Coal to design and supply a single flight curved overland conveyor for the Blue Creek Mine expansion, a new longwall mine of steelmaking coal. The conveyor system, which will transport 1,500 short tons per hour over nine miles (14 km), was selected after extensive collaboration to address the challenging terrain. The final design features a conventionally troughed conveyor with 18 horizontal curves, optimized for efficiency and feasibility.
BEUMER Group is responsible for the engineering and procurement of all structural and mechanical components, including multiple E-Houses with VFDs, MCCs, and PLC control systems. The conveyor will use nine load-sharing drives to minimize belt tension, with nearly half of the conveyor flight elevated to avoid natural features and reduce the need for earthworks. The conveyor system is expected to be operational by the end of 2025.
“In cooperation with Warrior, we addressed the project-specific challenges. The design and implementation are a testament to our commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions.” said Daniel Schmillenkamp, CEO of BEUMER Group Canada.
